Future Leaders & Waterbury YSB Partnerships Confirmed!

This has been a BIG WEEK for us at Outside Perspectives and included a bonus tour of the Bronx Zoo following a meeting with the Future Leaders staff team in NY! We are thrilled to have an OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP with the Wildlife Conservation Society's Future Leaders Program and several dates confirmed on the calendar. We will lead a day of games, initiatives, and hiking within Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx in a couple of weeks to begin preparing the group for their expedition later this summer in July.

Equally as exciting to us is our newly SOLIDIFIED PARTNERSHIP with Waterbury Youth Service Bureau (YSB)! We have been in conversation with this hardworking organization for several months now and can't wait to start working with several of their programs, including their Juvenile Services and Workforce Investment Programs.  We have a handful of dates on the calendar, the first one happening very soon in Black Rock State Park near Waterbury, CT.

We are looking forward to all of the adventures ahead with both of these great organizations. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Waterbury Youth Spend Two Days Exploring Local Parks with Outside Perspectives

Outside Perspectives facilitated two team-building days with a group of inspiring individuals from Waterbury Youth Services  on July 26th at Hamilton Park and August 9th at Fulton Park, in Waterbury. The team brought great energy both days and a willingness to step up, diving into the challenges presented to them. As a group, we explored some of Waterbury's hidden natural spaces, laughed a lot, soaked up sun, got to know odd and interesting things about each other,  and successfully completed several group initiatives, including Pipeline (see image to the left). The youth stepped up to the challenge, supporting each other as things got tough, and participating fully in every activity. Treasure found! "Future Leaders" Bronx Adventure

Superheros! Outside Perspectives and Future Leaders youth spent May 14th geocaching and exploring wild and natural spaces in Van Cortlandt Park , Bronx, NY. Outside Perspectives co-founders, Shannon and Nicky met the group at the last stop on the 1 line,  242nd St., on a sunny Saturday morning.  The day felt joyful as the youth soaked up the sun and practiced map and compass skills, played games, solved team challenges and devoured a picnic lunch on a high rocky outcropping overlooking the park. The Future Leaders were fully engaged offering their unique perspective on the challenges of the day. Spotlight on: Board Member, Emily Hazelton

Emily Hazelton has been wandering the woods of northwest Connecticut since early childhood.  Emily at Signal Hill, with Lions Head in the background, in South Africa A native of Thomaston, she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of outdoor recreation in children's lives working her first job as a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Mataucha. After completing a degree in government and social justice with the Ozanam scholars program at St John's University, Emily worked in special education and disability services before pursuing a passion for environmental and corporate sustainability.
